Description
Methanol-based windshield washer fluids are commonly used for extreme cold. However, current formulations often exceed the allowable regulatory limits and pose safety concerns like toxicity and flammability.
We are looking for your ideas to help develop a cost-effective formula that meets performance, legal requirements, and is equally effective in terms of freezing point protection.
Regulatory guidelines:
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are substances that turn into gas at room temperature – a major contributor to ground-level air pollution. Under the U.S. EPA, CARB (California), and Environment Canada regulations, the VOC content in windshield washer fluid must not exceed 35% by weight.
Formula requirements:
- VOC Content: ≤ 35% by weight (compliant with regulatory standards)
- Freezing Point: -40°C (-40°F) or lower
- Cost Efficiency: Equal to or less expensive than traditional methanol-based formulations, while adhering to VOC regulations
- Comply to regulations: Minimizing hazardous ingredients while complying with regulations
