Application for the Position of Tax Services - Assistant
I am , a final year accounting student at Singapore Management University, and I am expecting to graduate in June 2014. I am writing to apply for a position in the Tax Services of Ernst and Young.
My interest in tax was first sparked when I attended the 2013 Asia Tax Forum which presented cutting-edge issues in taxation in Asia. For example, I was fascinated by the influences of culture on tax practices, as well as the complexity of double taxation conflicts. I better appreciate what it takes to be a good tax auditor in an increasingly global business environment, such as knowledge of tax laws in multiple jurisdiction. This is relevant when relating to Singapore businesses, which rely on trade within the region due to our small domestic base.
I believe I have the ability to contribute to the firm. I have built a strong foundation in taxation having studied for two modules under the tutorship of Prof. Sum Yee Loong. Moreover, I have developed strong research skills over the course of my studies and internship experiences. During my stint at Thomson Reuters, I analysed and reported on the industry for tax and accounting tools in Japan, which involved canvassing briefly the Japanese tax landscape. In addition, I believe I have the tenacity and discipline required of the job. As a triathlete, I represented Singapore in the World University Triathlon 2013, as well as clinched category awards in multiple races. In 2013, I was awarded the Shu Li Platinum Award (Sportswoman of the Year).
